The CBP announced on 29 January 2020 that authorities discovered in late August 2019 the 'longest illicit cross-border tunnel along the Southwest border'. The tunnel, stretching for around 1,313 meters and reportedly used for cross-border smuggling, originates in an industrial area in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico and connected to the San Diego area in California.
