Bulgarian Pomaks perform a traditional Moslem circumcision ritual for boys until they are five years old. This delicate intervention was done by doctors working for the representation of the chief mufti of the Muslims in Bulgaria. After the fall of communism this and many other Moslem rituals have been observed by the ethnic Turkish minority as well as by the Pomaks in the Balkan country These are ethnic Bulgarians turned Moslems and thus to Islam during 500 years of Turkish rule on the Balkans.
