Jurie claimed that since de Silva was a divorcee she was ineligible to hold the title of 'Mrs Sri Lanka'. However, Pushpika de Silva said she was separated but not divorced and a complaint against Jurie. When Caroline Jurie went to the police to record a statement she was arrested for intimidation, assault and for causing damage to the Nelum Pokuna Theatre where the pageant was held.
