The GOLEES Foundation, aiming to help girls and women cope with and overcome gender-based violence, is implementing a soccer based program in communities at social risk in Costa Rica. GOLEES stands for Gender, Pride, Freedom and Empowerment of Women in Society and is currently starting works with indigenous communities. The program encompasses sports through training sessions and matches that promote teamwork, physical activity, discipline, values and fun, as well as psychosocial activities through group workshops aimed at creating a space of trust and mutual support to discuss women's rights.
