LIBERIA PHOTO SET MONKEY BRIDGEepa09154675 People cross the Monkey bridge in Woloh's Town, Grand Bassa County, Liberia, 20 April 2021 (issued 22 April 2021). The Monkey bridge, built more than one hundred years ago, connects Woloh's Town (Woloh Town in local Liberian dialect means Oil Town) to other towns in Grand Bassa County. The main source of income for the Woloh's Town community, with population of about three hundred people, is agriculture. The town produces a local alcohol from sugar cane as one of its main products. The Monkey Bridge, which is approximately one foot wide (about 30 cm) and made from wooden logs, sticks and rope and about 255 feet long (about 80 m), serves as a link for getting produce to market in surrounding towns. Children use the bridge to commute to school. There has been growing economic development around the Monkey Bridge due to the link it creates. Local authorities and residents have asked their direct government representatives for the improvement of the bridge as it has caused many injuries and in some cases deaths to residents of the Woloh's Town community but so far the bridge remains poorly maintained. Local authorities are seeking a business sponsor to develop the bridge to modern standards by offering ten acres of land as incentive for any prospective investors.
