Descriere: epa08926673 Joerg Rebhuhn of fashion store Arlette Kaballo hangs a poster reading ‘We call attention’ to draw attention to the threatened situation of retailers, in the city centre of Cologne, Germany, 08 January 2021. Not only the numbers of infections and corona deaths are still rising, but the Germans are also feeling the effects of the pandemic economically. Retailers must continue to keep their doors closed through 31 January 2021 because of the lockdown extension. The tough lockdown is pushing many retailers to the edge of their existence. The German Retail Association (Handelsverband Deutschland, HDE) believes that up to 250,000 jobs in inner-city retail will then be acutely threatened. In Cologne, the trade association predicts sales losses of an estimated 25 million euros per day. EPA/SASCHA STEINBACH
