Before getting into the car, President Mattarella, stopped to greet a child who gave him his drawing with the Italian tricolor flag. Mattarella took the drawing, patted the kid on the cheek, then greeted some people and the reporters. Mattarella was re-elected Italian president on 29 January during the eighth ballot of MPs, Senators and regional representatives after seven inconclusive votes forced political parties to beg the outgoing head of state to rethink his retirement plans.
