Descriere: epa09578264 People wade through a waterlogged road following incessant heavy rains, in Chennai, India, 12 November 2021. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has withdrawn a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Chennai as the depression over north coastal Tamil Nadu weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area. Light to moderate rainfall at several places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Tamil Nadu reports 14 deaths due to heavy rains and waterlogging in several places. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s new report, major coastal cities like Mumbai, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, and Chennai can go underwater by three feet by the end of the century. Coastal regions will see continued sea-level rise throughout the 21st century, leading to more frequent and severe coastal flooding in low-lying areas. More than 200 scientists told the UN Climate Change Conference COP 26 summit on 11 November 2021 to take immediate action to halt global warming as they warn in an open letter that some climate change impacts were irreversible for generations.
