Descriere: epa08605276 Belarusians attend the memorial ceremony for Alexander Tarakhovsky on the place of his death in Minsk, Belarus, 15 August 2020. Alexander Tarakhovsky (also spelled Alexander Taraykovskiy), a 34-year-old demonstrator, was reportedly killed on 10 August during an opposition rally against the presidential election results. Long-time president Alexander Lukashenko won the elections by a landslide with 80 percent of the votes, a result questioned and protested by the oppositions. Opposition leader Tikhanovskaya fled to Lithuania after rejecting the election results she claimed was rigged. Following the deathly crackdown on protesters, EU foreign ministers, during a video conference in Brussels on 14 August, approved sanctions against responsible officials in Belarus. EPA/YAUHEN YERCHAK
