Paquita's father Francisco Gonzalez was a lorry driver of the Republican side during the Spanish Civil War that had to flee to France in 1939, where he was captured a year later and sent to a camp of prisoners of war together with thousands of French men to start a journey that took him in January 1941 to Mathausend (Austria) and Dachau (Germany) concentration camps. It was at one of these Nazi camps where they confiscated the photos depicting his daughter Paquita and his wife, documents that have returned to Paquita nearly eight decades later after the work of Spanish historian Antonio Munoz, who found the photos within the file of Francisco Gonzalez when studying the Arolsen archives bringing together information about millions of nazi victims as part of the Stolenmemories project.
