CZECH REPUBLIC PANDEMIC CORONAVIRUS COVID19

CZECH REPUBLIC PANDEMIC CORONAVIRUS COVID19epa08857199 Alexandra Strelcova, owner of Haenke organisation, prepares second-hand houseplants before a delivery to residential care home, in Prague, Czech Republic, 02 December 2020. Loneliness and social isolation are taking its toll due to the months-long closure of residential care homes due to spreading of coronavirus. This is why the Prague-based initiative Haenke has teamed up with Foundation Beauty of Help, raising funds in order to bring second-hand house plants to care homes across the country. Multiple studies have shown the positive effect of plants on wellbeing and mental health as they help reduce stress and boost one's mood, while post-surgery recovery time can be significantly reduced by merely looking into the greenery. The first delivery of around twenty plants, donated by the project's supporters, was delivered on 02 December to Sue Ryder Home in Prague. EPA/MARTIN DIVISEK
